This work is based on our unique Metaventure approach to learning. By using compelling adventure stories as metaphors for leadership, teamwork and change, managers and executives gain deeper insight into their own challenges and opportunities.
Every presentation and program draws on a story from our suite of Metaventures®. Two of our most popular stories are the saga of the 1914-1916 Trans-Antarctic Expedition led by Sir Ernest Shackleton, and the drama of the 1998 Sydney-to-Hobart Ocean Sailing Race featuring the AFR Midnight Rambler crew (winner of the most prestigious award that year). Using photographs, drawings, illustrations and video, participants feel like they are part of the adventure.

Presentations take two forms: keynote or interactive.
A Keynote Presentation usually ranges from one to two hours, and is a gripping rendering of one of the Metaventure® stories. Participants are also introduced to the Ten Strategies for Success. Keynotes create a great foundation upon which the company can continue its own discussion of leadership, teamwork, adversity or change.
An Interactive Presentation is usually three to four hours long. The additional time affords more opportunity for deep discussion of the Metaventure® story and connection back to participants’ own challenges on the job.

Syncretics offers two programs: Leadership at The Edge®, and Teamwork at The Edge®. Every program is customized to best address the client’s own needs. Program length can vary – we offer half-day, full-day, or multi-day options.
The central story for Leadership at The Edge® is the 1914-1916 Trans-Antarctic Expedition led by Sir Ernest Shackleton. This is a riveting story of inspiring leadership and teamwork under life and death circumstances – as the crew of the Endurance struggled for 634 days in the harshest environment on the planet before finally making it back to civilization. We have been using this story for over 20 years in our programs, and participants consistently experience it as compelling and unforgettable.
The central story for Teamwork at The Edge® is the 1998 Sydney-to- Hobart ocean sailing race, in which the fleet was overwhelmed by a massive storm. Less than half the fleet finished the race, and six crew members perished. Our story emphasizes the spectacular leadership and teamwork displayed by one team – The AFR Midnight Rambler – as they succeeded in winning the most coveted award that year.
