Syncretics Enters Indian MarketFounded in 1924, Hindustan Times - the flagship paper of HT Media Ltd. – was the “Nationalist newspaper” supporting the freedom movement as the country struggled for independence from British rule. Closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi, this family owned paper provided a voice to those fighting for democracy, and played a significant role in helping the country gain independence in 1947. Over the past 50 years, India has continued to evolve and, with over one billion people, is now the world’s largest democracy, and one of the fastest growing business markets. Nowhere is this rapid change more evident than in the media industry. As fast as the technology infrastructure can be built, the thirst for information, education and entertainment continues to accelerate. Realizing the need for change, HT Media has set out on a journey of transformation to move beyond its core print business, and become a major multi-media enterprise that leads the way in the new economy. As part of this transformation effort, Kessler and colleague Michael Simon have been working with CEO Rajiv Verma and his senior team to develop a long term vision of the future. This effort began in August with interviews of the top 25 executives, with the research being presented in November. The next stage includes a series of senior management discussions, which will culminate in the development of a vision and set of priorities to guide the company into the future.
