The Endurance Metaventure^®

This Metaventure^® is based on the Trans-Antarctic Expedition led by Sir Ernest Shackleton.  Considered one of the greatest adventure stories in the annals of polar exploration, this 634 day odyssey of Shackleton and the crew of the Endurance is an unforgettable experience.
In 1914, Shackleton and his crew set sail on the Endurance to launch the most daring expedition to date—crossing the Antarctic continent. While only 60 miles from their landing point on the Antarctic coast, the ship became crushed in the pack ice, and over the next 18 months, they faced freezing temperatures, shortages of food and supplies, and constant danger.  Against this backdrop, Shackleton and his crew faced one challenge after another, including navigating the pack ice, landing on Elephant Island, journeying 800 miles on a 22’ lifeboat across the treacherous Southern Ocean, and crossing the uncharted, mountainous interior of South Georgia Island.

Throughout this epic adventure, the tension was palpable as every decision carried life or death consequences.  Shackleton’s leadership was severely tested, and his ability to focus the energy and creativity of the team became the crucial factor in their survival. This Metaventure^® is a powerful way to better understand the essence of leadership and teamwork in overcoming adversity, uncertainly and change.
